Support for schools with EAL pupils

An EAL support package will be agreed by the Consultant in partnership with the school, to be reviewed at appropriate times, and may include a number of the following elements:

• Induction package for newly arrived pupils
• Starter course for non-English speakers
• Transition package to support mobile pupils
• Web-based and ICT resources for EAL
• Guidance on individual language for learning development plans and tracking achievement
• Lesson planning and differentiation strategies for teachers of EAL pupils
• Extra support at key assessment times eg Years 6 and 11
• School workforce training

In addition, the following aspects of EAL support are currently being developed:

• Raising achievement package for advanced learners of EAL
