School self-evaluation
All aspects of work in the Cultural Diversity area contribute to the school improvement agenda and should therefore be part of a school's self review process. The aim is the development of effective, inclusive schools.
Schools will already have systems in place to identify areas of strength and areas for further development supported by a clear view of pupil performance.
The following may be useful tools to support self-evaluation in this area:
- Evaluating Education Inclusion - Guidance for Inspectors and Schools (2001) Ofsted
- Inspecting Subjects 3-11:English as an additional language, Ofsted 2001
- Inspecting Subjects 11-16: English as an additional language, Ofsted 2001
- National Strategies self-evaluation tool, ethnic minority focus area
- Raising the achievement of children learning EAL, self evaluation tool from the Primary National Strategy
- QCA Respect for All audit tool
- School Improvement Planning Framework (TDA) puts the child at the heart of your school improvement plan, with a focus on Every Child Matters to increase pupil achievement
- Perspective, an Ofsted-aware package to help school leaders and managers to evaluate the development of their school continuously through short, medium and long term plans (including qualitative self evaluation)
- Inclusion Audit for an Early Years Setting (NCC)
BME pupil performance data to inform self-evaluation can be found at the following locations:
